HEAT PUMP HOT WATER INSTALLATION

A heat pump hot water system extracts heat from the surrounding air and transfers it into the water in your cylinder—similar to how a refrigerator works, but in reverse.

A refrigerant absorbs heat from the outside air, a compressor increases its temperature, and the heated gas warms the water in your tank. Because the system moves heat rather than generating it from scratch, it uses significantly less electricity compared to a conventional electric cylinder.

In some cases, yes. A split hot water heater and heat pump system can be connected to an existing cylinder if it’s in good condition and compatible with a heat pump unit. They can also be integrated into some solar PV and solar electric systems. Our team will assess your current setup during our visit to quote and advise on whether a retrofit is viable or a full replacement is the better long-term option for your home.

Connecting a heat pump cylinder involves both plumbing and electrical work. At Uneeda Plumber, we coordinate the electrical side for you with our established local trades network across the Manawatu. You won’t need to source a separate electrician or manage two sets of contractors; we can coordinate it all for you.

If you’re replacing an existing gas hot water system, as a licensed gasfitter near you, we can also safely disconnect and remove it.

Most installations take one or two days once plumbing and electrical work are accounted for. Straightforward replacements or upgrades on accessible systems are typically at the faster end of our range.

More complex jobs (those involving significant rewiring, external pipework, or retrofitting to an existing system) may take a little longer. We’ll give you a clear timeframe when we quote, so you know what to expect before work begins.
